Lawsuit filed in wake of alleged anchor strike on underwater cable

Vancouver-based Pacific Northern Gas Ltd. is suing Westcoast Tug and Barge Ltd., Westview Towing Ltd., Humphries Tug & Barge Ltd. and the owners and all others interested in the vessels Seaspan 157 and S.N. No. 3 after an anchor allegedly damaged a submarine cable.

According to court documents filed in B.C. Supreme Court on September 1, the vessel, Seaspan 157, was anchored in Porpoise Harbour in December 2005 and the barge S.N. No. #3 was moored to it and allegedly caused the anchor of Seaspan 157 to drag and catch on Pacific Northern Gas’ submarine cable. Pacific Northern Gas is seeking damages.

A statement of defence had not been filed by press time.
