Local VoIP software developer acquires Chicago competitor Print E-mail
Wednesday, 06 February 2008

Vancouver's CounterPath Corp., which develops mobile VoIP (voice-over-Internet protocol) software, has acquired a Chicago competitor for an undisclosed sum.

The deal to acquire BridgePort Networks will expand CounterPath's market and diversify its product line. It will also increase its portfolio of intellectual properties with the addition of BridgePort's 18 patents pending or granted.

BridgePort's VoIP software allows users to have a single phone number to bridge voice, messaging and other services across both mobile and fixed broadband networks.

CounterPath's BridgePort acquisition comes days after CounterPath completed its $10 million acquisition of Ottawa-based FirstHand Technologies Inc. in an all-share deal.

FirstHand's applications service such mobile devices as the RIM Blackberry.
