Vancouver firm to verify carbon offsets in Alberta Print E-mail
Monday, 21 April 2008

Vancouver's Carbon Credit Corp. has won the contract to manage verification of Viterra's carbon credit program in Alberta.

Carbon Credit will certify farming practices that reduce or absorb greenhouse gas emissions.

The project has the potential to become one of the largest greenhouse gas abatement projects in Canada, according to Carbon Credit CEO Shawn Burns.

Viterra, a leading Canadian agri-business, has over 100 locations in Alberta. The company will use Carbon Credit's software, developed in collaboration with the National Research Foundation of Canada, to monitor carbon credits for Albertan farmers.

The carbon offset market has seen spectacular growth in recent years. The market is still largely unregulated and the quality of offsets varies widely.
